June 2025

From 1 July 2025, a range of important workplace changes come into effect. Employers should be aware of these updates now to ensure they stay compliant and support their teams confidently.
🔹 Minimum Wage Increase
The National Minimum Wage and minimum award wages will increase by 3.5%, starting from the first full pay period on or after 1 July 2025.
- New national minimum wage: $948 per week or $24.95 per hour (based on a 38-hour week).
- If you have an enterprise agreement, check that your base rates do not drop below the updated award minimums. If they do, you must adjust them to meet the higher rate.
🔹 Superannuation Guarantee Changes
The Superannuation Guarantee (SG) rate will rise from 11.5% to 12%.
- This increase is part of the Government’s long-term plan to strengthen retirement savings for employees.
- Businesses should check their payroll systems and ensure super contributions are paid at the new rate.
- Plan ahead for the impact on your cash flow – penalties apply for late or missed super payments.
- Looking ahead: From 1 July 2026, ‘Pay Day Super’ will take effect, meaning employers may need to pay employees’ super contributions at the same time they pay wages. Start preparing now by reviewing your systems and processes.
✅ Key Actions for Employers
To stay compliant and avoid fines or back payments, employers should:
- ✅ Check employee classifications, pay rates, and award coverage – make sure you’re paying at or above the correct rate.
- ✅ Update payroll systems, employment contracts, and rosters to reflect the new minimum wage and super rate.
- ✅ Issue the updated Fair Work Information Statement to all new employees – this is a legal requirement.
- ✅ Use Fair Work’s Pay Calculator and Award Finder to confirm pay and entitlements.
🔹 Where to Get Help
- The Fair Work Ombudsman has free tools and resources to help you check pay rates, awards and obligations: fairwork.gov.au.
- For information on super, visit the Australian Taxation Office (ATO): ato.gov.au.
- Talk to your accountant or bookkeeper if you need support updating your payroll or budgeting for increased wage costs.
