The use of closed-circuit television (CCTV) surveillance in crime prevention has become common across the Australian public and private sectors, with CCTV recordings regularly contributing to the identification and prosecution of criminals.
In an effort to better utilise this valuable crime fighting resource, the NSW Police Force has implemented a CCTV Register to record the locations of CCTV camera systems operating throughout the state. The Register aims to provide police officers in the field with a map of camera locations, along with other useful information, to assist them when investigating criminal activity in a particular area and to support police operations.
The NSW Police Force is seeking your support in this initiative by requesting that you register your CCTV system today. All information supplied will be protected using industry standard computer security and all access to information will be logged.
Please note that your registration is not a pre-approval for police to access your information without consent. In the event that any CCTV footage is considered useful, police will use the contact details in the Register to request access to the footage from owners/operators. This initiative has already received widespread support from both government and business sectors. We believe that it compliments your business's existing crime prevention and community safety efforts. I look forward to your support in registering the details of your CCTV installation.
